The Best Reasons to Move to Highland Village
If you’re looking to relocate to or within the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, I’m going to tell you ten great reasons to consider moving to Highland Village, Texas! {If you’re the visual type, scroll to the bottom of this post for the video version. And if you’re not sure where you want to live, take my quiz to help you find your sweet spot!
Highland Village is a picturesque suburban community located in Denton County. It sits just south of Lake Lewisville and only covers about 6 1/2 square miles. The population is just under 17,000 so this isn’t a sprawling area in the metroplex.
Ten Reasons to Move to Highland Village
Trees and Nature
Highland Village is full of trees and natural spots and this gives you the feeling of being away from the big city. You kind of feel like you’ve entered a separate little world in Highland Village, especially as you get closer to the lake. It’s a city with a lot of natural beauty.
Lake Lewisville
This is something I highlight about so many areas in the metroplex but it definitely has to be mentioned for Highland Village because the city sits right on the shore. You can live in a waterfront property, you can access swimming and boating areas, and the lake is just a really prominent feature in this area. Because of the natural beauty of Highland Village, it’s a great place for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Parks and Greenbelts
As you drive through Highland Village, it’s apparent that the city has maintained walking trails and beautiful green spaces throughout the area and somehow instilled a rural feel in the midst of the huge metroplex. Shops, restaurants, and grocery stores sit on the outskirts of the city so the residential area feels entirely residential. It’s hard to put into words exactly what I mean but if you’re familiar with Highland Village, you know.
Easy Airport Access
Despite the fact that this city has a rural feel, it still has really easy access to DFW airport. Highland Village is strategically located just minutes away from major highways and is probably about a twenty minute ride from the airport. I know a number of pilots that live in this area because it is so conveniently located.
Doubletree Ranch Park
This is such an amazing outdoor space and it offers a bit of everything. Unlike many big city parks, they’ve done an incredible job of mixing convenience with nature, keeping this park from looking like an industrial destination. The park features nearly a mile of trails including a pedestrian bridge right over a corner of the lake {one of my favorite places to walk!}, a splash pad that’s open during the spring and summer months, a pavilion that can be rented out, and huge lawn space for outdoor activities.
Festivals and Events
Highland Village is known for some of their events throughout the year and it’s another way that they instill a strong sense of community in the midst of the metroplex. They host a hot air balloon festival, an art festival, a big Christmas event at Doubletree Ranch, concerts in the park, and a fourth of July event. There are also some smaller events and festivals throughout the year and events hosted by area shops and organizations.
Shops
While this area definitely has a more rural feel, shopping isn’t far away. There are a few different shopping areas on the outskirts of Highland Village featuring smaller boutique style shops as well as larger chain stores. The city is also home to The Shops at Highland Village, a premier lifestyle shopping center with boutiques and specialty stores. And grocery shopping is convenient. There are a number of grocery stores close by, including a large Whole Foods.
Restaurants
Like most stores, restaurants tend to be situated on the outskirts of Highland Village but there are lots to choose from. There are chain restaurants but also lots of mom and pop style places.
Established Homes
One of the things that many residents of Highland Village love is that there are lots of older, established homes. To me, traditional style is appreciated more in this area than in some other parts of the metroplex. There’s a diverse range of housing options to suit various lifestyles and budgets. The city is known for its well-maintained neighborhoods, manicured lawns, and friendly neighbors, making it an ideal place to put down roots and call home.
Small Town Feel
I already alluded to this but it needs to be mentioned again. There’s a really unique small town feel to Highland Village which builds a sense of community … and I always say that’s key to living in a huge metroplex.
There are many other reasons to live in Highland Village, including excellent schools and strong community involvement, but these are just a few of the highlights.
